Vi ricordate di quel luogo di culto in Giordania che gli studiosi locali avevano assegnato addirittura all’età apostolica. Si sarebbe trattato della più antica chiesa cristiana di sempre. Ora, è la volta di Lincoln Blumell e Jenn Cianca che con un articolo seppelliscono definitivamente la questione: la chiesa di Rihab è della metà del VI secolo. Do you remember the story about presumed oldest Christian church in Jordan? Well, after Michele Piccirillo’s interview, it’s time for this interesting paper by Lincoln Blumell and Jenn Cianca: that complex in Rihab, Jordan, can be dated to the mid VIth century.
In December 2000 the Public Archaeological Department of Jordan uncovered the
remains of an ancient Christian building in Rihab Jordan, a small village located some 50 km N. of Amman. Among the most prominent of the remains of this building was a large mosaic pavement. Atop the rectangular mosaic and encased within its eastern border could be found a brief Christian dedicatory inscription written in Greek that marked the completion of the building.
